As of Jan 1, 2010, Hai Bang‘s contract with the forever-existing old school girl group May Trang has finally ended, like before mentioned. But just as quickly as this official news was publicized, Hai Bang‘s replacement was immediately announced. The girl in question? Nguyễn Vũ Kim Ngọc aka Mimi.

Call me shallow but …Mimi? You ain’t workin. As for personal opinions, I honestly thought that Hai Bang’s departure  from the group will finally mark the end of May Tang’s era…but man, these girls are more persistent than my 4572 yr old TV. Earlier this month, the “new but not exactly improved” May Trang even released a new digital single called “O Nha Mot Minh/Home Alone” to be their first promotion of the year. The song, which bears a strong “Ngoc Ngech/Stupid” vibe, though catchier, was also composed by famous musician Nguyen Hai Phong. Listen:

Hai Bang, on the other hand, confirms that there are no personal conflicts between her and the members. “Actually 3 years really isn’t too long, but it was still enough time to nurture good feelings towards each other in work and in life. Saying goodbye is always sad, but if necessary, it still needs to be done because everyone has their own paths. By going solo, I’m only working towards my dreams…our feelings won’t be destroyed just because of that..”

She also reveals that sometime around March of this year, her solo debut album will be released with the help of famous musicians Lương Bằng Quang, Nguyễn Văn Chung, Nguyễn Hoàng Duy, Phúc Trường etc. Check out our youngest ex-May Trang member’s new song:

Cho Toi Quen/Let Me Forget (also composed by Nguyen Hai Phong)

So “Home Alone” sounds like Bao Thy‘s “Ngoc Nghech” and “Cho Toi Quen” sounds like Wanbi’s “Vut Mat. Is  Nguyen Hai Phong finally running dry on beats?
